Woning Nieuwegein

For this private client, we are designing a sleek extension that enhances the existing home with more space and natural light. The goal is to create a functional, compact addition that can be used as a separate living space or rental unit. The design fully complies with municipal regulations for a permit-free extension, positioning the new structure 1 meter back from the existing façade.

The extension is thoughtfully crafted to seamlessly blend with the existing home, both in style and roofline. The result is a bright, modern space that harmonizes perfectly with the original house, while offering the flexibility to function as an independent unit.

Estetics combined with functionality

This project embraces sustainability at its core with several thoughtful approaches to reduce environmental impact. A key feature is the reuse of the garden façade from the existing home, which not only contributes to the sustainability of the project but also enhances its aesthetic cohesion. The current housing market’s tightness is creatively addressed by designing a small independent dwelling, perfect for older residents or first-time buyers. This unit is entirely separate in its entrance and functionality, ensuring privacy and autonomy from the main house.

Additionally, the existing façade is repurposed to give the shed a cohesive and fitting appearance within the overall design. The solid walls are replaced with windows, carefully deconstructed from the original living room façade, preserving the character and materials of the existing home while integrating them into the new structure. This sustainable approach creates a harmonious balance between the old and the new, with a focus on resourcefulness and efficiency.
